I really like this guy and what's more, now I can freely tell him. We started dating recently and though there has been some trouble, I'm really happy.

» Jean Kirstein
Shingeki no Kyojin
I absolutely hate Jean. Except, maybe no, I don’t really. There’s just too much rivalry between us to ever admit that we're friends. Sorta. More like frienemies, really.

» Ichinose Tokiya
UtaPuri
I respect Ichinose-senpai. He's very cool! I strive to be like him one day. But I know it's just not possible for us to reach an understanding. I've come to accept the fact, that we're too different.

» Kairi
Kingdom Hearts
I knows her through Quidditch, but not that well. Recently she’s helped me though and I learned a few surprising things, which I can't help but admire.
» Shidou Hikaru
Magic Knight Rayearth
She's the seeker of the rival Gryffindor, but I respect her and like her. I enjoy this friendly rivalry between us and she's a really good friend, when you need one.

» Namine
Kingdom Hearts
I met her only recently, but she encouraged me. She's nice, but a little too nice. I feel shy around her... Argh, I did not admit that just now!
» Adela
OC
I met her only recently, but she was nice enough to me, even though I was an utter asshole to her. Somehow she cheered me up and I ended up inspiring her to take up Quidditch. Recently I helped her catch up on her schoolwork. We’re two of the same kind.

» Gareki
Karneval
He’s a fellow 5th year in Ravenclaw. We hang out, but I can never really fully figure out what he thinks. His no-nonsense and down-to-earth manner have saved me a lot of times… Che. Not like I’d ever admit that.
» Kaoru Hitachiin

My roommate. He can be really weird sometimes, along with his twin brother, but I don’t mind him. Usually it’s amusing to watch their antics. I just dislike how nosy and smartass he sometimes is.

» Yami

♦ Wikipedia, for the math stuff.

Notes:

I originally designed this to get a better understanding of Arithmancy for myself, because canon!Rin is good at Math and this was the closes equivalent, that is there in the HP universe. But I got so much into it, that I ended up putting too much thought and effort into it and ended up referencing it a lot, and thus began to feel like I should make this public.

You can use it, discard it, or add to it as much as you want, this is no way meant to be an absolute guide. I used to hate Math in Middle School, so my knowledge of it is limited. I put up everything into it that I remembered, plus some wikipedia knowledge. It's basically the notes from the cited links put together into a curriculum.

I also renamed the discipline of "gematria" into "isomancy" and "sacred geometry" into "hagiometry". The former because it's simply the hebrew name of "geometry". Geometry is called "isometry" in Greek, which I changed to "Isomancy" (mantei - predict), because I thought it would have been something wizards would have done in the course of centuries. The latter I thought sounded too religious. Again, I borrowed the word hagios from greek, which means sacred as well. Yeah, inventive, I know. In modern Greek it's pronounce "aiyos", with "a" pronounced like in "art".

Backstory
Rin was born at the south of Japan to a couple of loving parents, who would soon give him a little sister as well. For 5 years the family lead a happy life, but then it all came to an end, with the tragic death of Toraishi. Their mother, unable to stay in the place where everything reminded her of her beloved, moved back to her home country, taking her two children with herself. Since their mother was most of the time away, working asa Curse Breaker for Gringotts, they were sent to live with friends of their family, Russel and Lori, in a small residential area in Sydney, close to the sea. They only returned for the summer months, when they visited their grandmother, visits that Rin loved, as they were full of stories of his father, and spending time at the beach, the smell of the sea, and the gentle caress of the breeze lulling him into sleep.

Neither their mother, nor their granny told them much about their father, until one day a mail arrived that turned their lives upside down. It was during the summer holiday a year after his father's death, that Rin had received a certain scroll, a haiku written in ancient heiyan Japanese, with a single sakura flower (completely out of season) attached to it. It was far too late for the flowers to bloom, as it was not the usual time for the scroll to arrive (as he later learned), but summer being the only time they were in Japan, the wizarding school of Mahoutokoro had to take extraordinary measures. The kids were required to start their quest for knowledge at the age of seven.

Not having any other choice, their mother (or the "naive mudblood" by the words their granny had used then, never having agreed with the policy of her daughter-in-law about keeping their heritage a secret, but respecting it nonetheless) had to finally start talking about what she neglected for an entire life: Their magical heritage and the real reason their father had lost his life (in the line of work as an Auror).
Education

Elementary: Ancient Wizarding School Mahoutokoro
Middle School: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Slytherin, currently 5th year
.

Being born Japanese, Rin spent his first four years in the elementary day school of Mahoutokoro, where he met his best friend, Sousuke. Being at the Japanese Wizarding School also made him learn a lot about his father, that his mother or granny had not been able to told him, all the student records, best subjects, or the  mischief his old man had ever pulled in his days of youth, along with the names of his brothers-in-crime. He also learned about the profession of an auror and decided to step into his fathers footsteps - much to the dismay of his mother and granny - and become one as well.

Rin had continued commuting between Japan and Australia and it had been during one of the summer months, that he had received another letter, a scroll sealed with the emblem of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which he had a right on, being part Australian. Since the UK had some of the best record in fighting Dark Arts and their Ministry of Magic the most prestigious and prolific Auror office (lead by the famous Harry Potter, who was the one to have single-handedly defeated Voldemort), Rin decided to leave Japan and entered Hogwarts at the age of eleven.
His ambitious heart and unyielding tenacity brought him straight into the noble house of Slytherin.

COURSES

Core ClassesElectives
♦ Charms
♦ Transfiguration
♦ Potions
♦ Defense Against Dark Arts
♦ Astronomy
♦ Herbology
History of Magic
♦ Arithmancy

♦ Study of Ancient Runes

♦ Care for Magical Creatures

He's got 3 electives because he's an overchiever. (No, really, it's because he wants to become and Auror and is afraid that he'll have too few "challenging subjects". That, and he likes animals.)

Best Class: Arithmancy and Potions, he’s also reasonably good at Transfiguration. Sciences that are exact and have a logic he’s good at.
Average good: DADA, CharmsStudy of ancient runes. Takes practice, determination, focus, logic and feeling to learn.
Average: Astrology, not a hard subjects, just not really his thing.
Worst Class: History of Magic,
Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures and everything that can't be handled with formulas, meticulous memorizing and a bit feeling. Human and social sciences, things that unexpectedly jump at you, or explode in your hands though you've done everything by the book (or attempted to), will make him lose his patience. Though he has enough interest and tenacity to not completely give up on Magical Creatures (as he does like animals, though only the cute ones), and is capable of getting good grades on it, HoM and Herbology are completely different beasts altogether.
Patronus Not sure he has one yet, but if he had it would be a Shark.

Shark
The Shark is a clear sign the energy is primed for focus and confirms self-trust, points into a forward momentum in life. There are some creatures in Nature's cradle who speak so clearly of their energetic symbolism. The shark totem is one with crystalline expression. To wit, one look at these extraordinary creatures conveys a message of sleek authority. And the shark is an authority on all fronts of survival. In fact, those who connect with the shark totem will be masters at survival in their own waters of life. Shark people are extremely adept at summing up social situations, manipulating people and events (in a good way). People with the shark totem navigate through life with a specialized "gut-rudder," a primal instinct, a visceral, hard-wired knowing that guides certain humans. It's infallible, reliable. The shark is both oracle and embodiment of fundamental life. The shark relays superior instinct, and that remarkable drive for survival. Sharks are symbolic of acting on life. They never wait for opportunity. They are not handmaiden's to the life experience. Far from it. Because they are authorities on life - they know precisely what it's about and they seize it with verve.

This is made manifest by their constant motion. They move to allow oxygenated currents roll over their gills. Their motion through life insures their existence. Moreover, most sharks sink when motionless (a side effect of not having a "swim bladder" as most fish do). They can't afford to be still. Sharks meet life full-on. They rarely stay in the "shallow end" of life, but prefer to move deftly through the waves of experience - encountering adventure with undeniable exuberance. And for all this zealous talk of life, the shark is also symbolically equipped to share lessons of death too. Actually, sharks know death is a fallacy. They have no concept of it. Sharks are in a constant state of renewal, and those with the shark totem will confirm the absence of death. Sharks, and humans attuned to sharks will only see renewal - only transition.

Sharks are superior organisms. From tail to teeth, sharks convey perpetual fluidity and momentum. They are examples of progress in its most assertive stages. To wit, their biological mechanisms are so elite, they've had no need to evolve over insane spans of time. They function from a place of timeless propulsion. Ever-forward. Perhaps it is the sharks unsinkable nature that makes it a bit of a cold character. Sharks are about aerodynamic efficiency, and they allow no fluff to enter their consciousness. They're quite austere and are wrapped in robes of distance and mystery. Those with shark totems will display similar aloofness. Inwardly, they sense the waves of emotions within and around them. Yet, outwardly they are cool, controlled, steely. This makes people of the shark clan extremely good businessmen/women, leaders and visionaries. It's important to note the inherent duality here. The element of water is esoterically symbolic of emotions, dreams and intuition. And yet, the shark conveys a sterility in emotion. To be clear, the shark is not symbolically devoid of emotion. Rather, it is a master of emotion. This symbolic lesson is tantamount for humankind, and the lesson is this: We can be submerged in emotional dramas, but we do not have to be swallowed by them. This is a sacred conveyance of emotional wisdom - a most vital gift of the shark.
Wand

His wand core is made of Dragon Heartstring, inserted into a 11 & 1/4 inch wand of a swishy quality, made of Willow.

He has his uncertainties and may come across as stubborn, but his faith is strong and he’s persistent towards his goals. When his heart heals, he casts away his shadows and his confidence and conviction shines through, no one can stop him.
Wandlore
Dragon
As a rule, dragon heartstrings produce wands with the most power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Dragon wands tend to learn more quickly than other types. While they can change allegiance if won from their original master, they always bond strongly with the current owner.

The dragon wand tends to be easiest to turn to the Dark Arts, though it will not incline that way of its own accord. It is also the most prone of the three cores to accidents, being somewhat temperamental.

Willow
Willow is an uncommon wand wood with healing power, and I have noted that the ideal owner for a willow wand often has some (usually unwarranted) insecurity, however well they may try and hide it. While many confident customers insist on trying a willow wand (attracted by their handsome appearance and well-founded reputation for enabling advanced, non-verbal magic) my willow wands have consistently selected those of greatest potential, rather than those who feel they have little to learn. It has always been a proverb in my family that he who has furthest to travel will go fastest with willow.
History

After his father’s death, his life became something of a disaster. He loved and adored his father, the man was his greatest idol and he had never really gotten over his tragic death. He had made it his goal to protect and take care of his little sister, who had been too young to understand what was happening, at the time. Their mother had been too grief stricken and too busy with making money to keep them over the bay, to take care of them, so Rin and Gou had grown up commuting between Japan, where their granny was and Australia, where their caretakers resided.

The distance between Rin and his mother had grown, up until his 7th birthday, when suddenly the scroll of acceptance had arrived at the peaceful small house at the sea and their granny was forced to explain to them, that he had inherited the wizarding skills of his parents and had been thus accepted to Wizarding School of Mahoutokoro. Which really explained a lot of the unlucky incidents, or broken porcelain and exploding vases, which their grandmother admitted to having known the entire time, but sworn to silence by their mother ("the naive mudbood"), who had wanted to tell them "when the right time came".

Which was supposed to be the coming spring of that year, but after learning Rin had received his scroll prematurely, their mother had no other choice than to pay them a visit and tell them everything. Her side of the story. About how she had gotten a similar scroll along with a visit all those years ago, how she learned about magic in the magical school that barely seemed real at times, how she had decided to travel and learn about magic from all across the world, which lead her to meet their father and ultimately fall in love. And finally, she told them about how their father really died - in the line of work, as an auror, hunting those, that misused magic for purposes of torture and causing a lot of turmoil to those that couldn’t defend themselves equally.

And since then Rin, who had always admired his father - his idol and hero - wanted to become an Auror himself, to complete the noble mission and maybe, somewhere along the way make his father proud.

And perhaps… Perhaps finally get to know the man.

Remember him.
Russell & Lori, and Rin’s mother
Though not a single drop of magic in them, Russell and Lori, upon learning about the background of their close friend and her children that they’ve been lovingly raising, they became the proudest and strongest supporters of Rin in his quest of learning about himself, about magic and about his father.

Rin returned every summer to their house, willingly and happily, having spent there the most beautiful moments of his childhood. He always told them about everything that he had learned and they were always proud of him.

The relationship with his mother however, continued to suffer. Rin had never quite managed to forgive his mother for leaving them at other people’s place - wonderful as it may have been - instead of raising them herself. He also never quite forgave her about not telling them the entire truth about themselves and their father.

The issue remains unresolved.

Rin's first few years in Hogwarts were, in spite of his excitement, pretty turbulent and not always good. Young, eleven years old Rin was an innocent boy, full of wonder, open and happy, always eager to make new friends. Excited and trusting and very easy to hurt.

And a natural bully magnet.

People would get either annoyed, or make use of his easygoing and open personality, that was like a little sunshine. By the end of his third year, Rin was a lot more insecure and closed up, than in his first. Slowly he distanced himself from his friends, got shy and developed anxiety. Later he learned to hide his unsureness behind a layer of coldness and gruffness and bad temper, built an icy and fiery wall of defense around himself. He dedicates himself to his studies, builds mountains of books around himself to hide behind, feels like he needs to prove his worth. He's afraid, if he doesn't do well in his studies, he's gonna become a useless, unlovable person. But real Rin is sociable and friendly, thus he gets lonely and would like to rekindle with his friends, or even make new ones. Fall in love.

His only refuge over the years, where he could leave all his insecurities behind, was Quidditch. He started playing in his third year on the position of the Seeker, for his speed and flexibility. Being a naturally fast flyer with good reflexes and an aggressive play style, Rin excelled at the sport. He loves the feeling when his feet leave the ground and the wind whips around his face, ruffling his hair. It's wild and most importantly it's free! He loves playing and he's a great team player, on his good days. When he feels like he has things to prove, like that he is capable of dealing alone with trouble, it's a little worse, but a word from his captain and senpai, to which he has great respect, puts him back in his place.

Personality

Rin can sometimes come across as brash and short-tempered, while in fact he’s quite gentle and caring. His usual brashness and stone faced expression is all but a wall of defense that he had built around himself in order to not get hurt, as it happened in the past. He's also the type who won't stand bullshit and lame excuses, and won't hesitate to voice his disapproval, which doesn't get him many friends either. But those who bother to look beyond the grumpy demeanor and short fuse, will find out, that he genuinely cares for his friends and would do everything for them. When distance grows between him and someone he cares about, he’ll try to rekindle their previous bond, though his methods are sometimes not the luckiest ones and can result in drawing the person further away.
His close friends will also get to see the glimpses of a romantic heart he carries in his chest. He can get quite sappy, though you'll be hard-pressed to get him to admit it. Truth is, that touching moments will almost always make him cry (he’ll attempt to hide it by turning away and subtly wiping his eyes), and so will sad, or tragic moments, when something bad happened, or a friend is hurt. He’s learning to keep a cool head and not let his emotions rule him over so easily, but he can’t always help it, being the romanticist at heart.

He’s also very competitive and loves to win. Being the hard worker, he’ll train vigorously and expect his competition to do the same, which makes the taste of victory all the sweeter. He won’t forgive slack offs, or those who give up, because they “lack talent”. To him, no amount of talent can beat hard work.

Relationships

Being a romantic at heart, Rin won’t be easily roped into a one night stand, or an affair. To him a relationship is trust and commitment and joy about being together. He’ll expect his partner to talk to him about their troubles and will do his best to do that in turn as well. He needs someone he can trust and who can be patient with him, maybe someone he’;s known for a long time. Someone that will give him the feeling that he’s loved and treasured, someone who can be his rock, but also someone whom he can help as well. Someone he can worry about and laugh with.

His orientation is Kinsey scale 4, or 5. His default attraction is towards males, but it is possible for him to be with females as well, after a bond of trust has been formed and they have known each other/been friends for some time, with the basic attraction there and the right buttons being pushed.
